It ends with us : Book Review
Colleen Hoover
“In the future . . . if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again . . . fall in love with me” It Ends With Us, Colleen Hoover.
I started my romance novel spree with this very book. It was all over the place, and got me intrigued to know what’s so damn good about this book that literally everyone is talking about it.
It does not
disappoint I will try to give a spoiler free review because It end with us
needs to be experienced the way it is.

My views - It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
It delivers a
very solid message with a spicy romance between the main characters. An overall
engaging story, constantly leaving you on edge. It’s very likely you would
finish it in no time.
Lily’s character
is relatable and inspiring at the same time. She has experienced shit ton of
trauma in her life and yet she is a very nice person who makes good and healthy
decisions which makes her character even more empowering.
A little
appreciation for Ryle’s sister, Alyssa. She is the best friend every girl
needs. Calm and loving, and having a sense of making right choices.
As I said, this
was my first book from Colleen Hoover, her writing style is raw and powerful,
with her expertly crafting descriptions and dialogue bringing the story to
life.
I feel like the
climax was really intense and emotional. Very well written and an excellent job
of exploring the complexities of abuse and its effects on both the victim and
the perpetrator.
The book leaves you with wanting more, it was a huge thing on BOOKTOK, which inspired Colleen Hoover to write a sequel “IT STARTS WITH US”
It Ends With Us- Quotes which will make you read the whole thing.
“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who
sometimes do bad things.”
“I feel like everyone fakes who they really are,
when deep down we’re all equal amounts of screwed up. Some of us are just
better at hiding it than others.”
“All humans make mistakes. What determines a
person’s character aren’t the mistakes we make. It’s how we take those mistakes
and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.”
“I think that’s one of the biggest signs a person
has matured- knowing how to appreciate things that matter to others, even if
they don’t matter very much to you.”

Is ‘It Ends With Us’ overrated?
It is a highly
popular book, almost everyone has read it or reading it. I won’t say the story
isn’t good, it does a fair job of reflecting the issues it deals with but it’s
not a literary masterpiece.
It’s safe to say
the book is extremely hyped to the extent that some people call it the best
book ever. I have always loved romance book and it does fall under the dark
side of the genre with not everything butterflies. The characters are flawed
just like how everyone of us is which makes it even more easy to relate to
them.
I won’t say it’s Colleen Hoover’s best work now that I have read more from the COHO collection. But its beautifully written and worth the hype at times.
1. What is the main message of It Ends With Us?
It Ends With Us revolves around the theme of domestic
abuse, jealousy, emotional abuse and generational cycles of abuse. Lily goes
through with it, her mother goes through it but to save her daughter from it
Lily end her marriage with Ryle. The story tells us what love is and isn’t. It
also shows how much courage it needs to end a bad relationship.
Colleen Hoover is really good with portraying heartbreak
and she does it in this one too. She makes Lily’s character strong, independent
and able to make right decisions in difficult times.
2. Does Lily end up with Ryle or Atlas?
In the ending of It Ends With Us we see Ryle and Lily
have gone through a divorce. They are co-parenting their daughter. Ryle’s
jealousy and abuse towards Lily was the reason of their divorce. Lily was never
unfaithful to Ryle, even when she encounters with Atlas.
After a year of their divorce, Lily bumps into Atlas
yet again and they both decide to go on a date. We get more of Lily and Atlas’s
love story in It Starts With Us.
3. Why did Lily get a tattoo in It Ends With Us?
When Lily was in school she met with a homeless boy
named Atlas. She helped him get food and let him bath at her place when her
parents used to be out. Over sometime, they both developed attraction towards
each other.
Atlas used to kiss Lily on her collar bone, it became
their unspoken thing and Lily used to love it. Atlas leaves for Boston and then
army, they get separated but Lily never forgot her first love so, when she was
in college she got a heart tattoo right where Atlas used to kiss her every time
they were alone. It was a sweet memory for both of them. When Ryle finds out
about this, disturbing things happen which lead to their ultimate split.
4. How is domestic abuse portrayed in the novel?
Colleen Hoover is one hell of a writer, her writing
style is so raw. She portrayed domestic abuse in the book with all of its
aspects, how it affects the victim, the cruelty, their family member, the
trauma, the move on from the abuse.
Lily growing up saw her mother being abused by her
father, when she grew up, she decided that she won’t let the same thing happen
to her but when she
falls in love with Ryle that she will have to face the same thing. Throughout
the book Ryle tried to justify his abuse by his short tempered behaviour, jealousy
by his love for his wife.
It
ends with us in my opinion is a really good novel, and you should definitely
read it.
5. Why was the book titled It Ends With Us?
It Ends With Us is a
romance novel by Colleen Hoover which goes around the theme of abuse.
The title is a nod to the exact moment when Lily, who saw abuse in her own home growing up, leaves her husband Ryle because of the same behavior her father did to her mother.
