Book Review : Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Book Review: Ugly Love
By Colleen Hoover
When
Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at
first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends.
The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual
attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realise they have the
perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that
just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long
as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realise almost immediately they can’t
handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
“God gives us the
ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted.” – Colleen
Hoover, Ugly Love.
Ugly Love: Plot
Ugly love was published in 2014 but
it’s still very popular due to social media. Colleen Hoover do it yet again,
the heartbreak and the plot twist. My friend recommended me to read it and I
immediately got my copy of the book. I finished the whole book in just a couple
of days, its so hard to stop when you start. Ugly Love is a modern
romance story which will keep you on your toes.
The book goes around Tate, a medical
student and Miles, a pilot. Both meet when Tate moves in with her brother. When
they meet their connection is undeniable. And before they know it they are in a
friends with benefits situation as Miles doesn’t want anything and Tate is also
not looking for love.

Miles a man of few words, he keeps
things to himself, and he does it when his only two rules for Tate are “Never
ask about past. Don’t expect a future.” Tate on other end doesn’t plan on
falling in love with her brother’s friend either. But as they keep spending
time together things start to get real for both of them. Tate does the only
thing she wasn’t supposed to fall for Miles, but Miles keep distancing himself.
The pain of Miles’s past is greater
than anything he has ever been, which leaves the readers in a shock. He’s so
hurt from whatever happened that he decides to never fall in love again. Not
for anyone or any reason whatsoever.
“It’s not that I don’t
like you, Tate… I just don’t want to like you. I don’t want to like anyone.
I don’t want to date anyone. I don’t want to love anyone.”
No matter how painful be your past,
time and love are the greatest healers. Tate and Miles get what they deserve, a
happy ending. This book is real before anything else. The heartbreak is so
painful and beautifully written. You will fall head over heels for Miles and no
wonder Tate did too.
Ugly Love : My views
I have read some of Colleen Hoover’s book
before I hoped on Ugly Love. Whenever I read a new book I go in with zero
expectations whatsoever, and let me tell you this book will exceed all of your
unconscious expectations too. Its spicy, sweet and relatable.
Tate and Miles dynamic is what modern
dating has become. But seeing their story end on a positive and good note is
reassuring. Tate falls in love with a man she isn’t supposed to but don’t give
up on him. Love makes us do many things that we think we aren’t capable of and
we see the main characters overcoming the darkest moments of their lives with
the help of love.
The book describes the plot twist so
well, from the first chapter you will keep wondering who is that girl who made
Miles the way he is? Tate and we as a reader feel same for this unexplained
part of Miles’s past and that’s what connects the reader to the book.
Colleen Hoover wrote it so well, she
is a master at what she does and at this point, it would be a missed
opportunity if you don’t read her books. In my opinion, the whole story was
well written and explained. The emotions of the characters were raw and so
beautifully written. If you have ever been in a friends with benefits
situation, you will relate to Miles and Tate both.
Ugly is the suffering that Miles has
to go through all these years. And beautiful is the closure and the move on he
gets. It’s a most recommend from my side. The book is spicy and emotional. It
will keep you on your edge and you will not be able to take your eyes off of
this one.
Ugly Love Quotes
“Love isn’t always pretty.
Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it’ll eventually be something
different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you’re back to square
one, and lost your heart somewhere along the way.”
“I didn’t fall in love with
you…I flew.”
“Some people they grow wiser as they grow
older. Unfortunately, most people just grow older.”
“What rules?”
“Well, for
one, I’m not allowed to break your heart,” he says. “Second, I’m also not
allowed to break your damn heart. And last, I’m not allowed to fucking break
your damn heart.”
“If I were capable of loving
someone… it would be you.”
Is Ugly Love and November 9 connected?
I think not many people
noticed this tiny detail between the two books, November 9 has characters from
Ugly Love and Ugly Love has characters from November 9. If you have read both
of the book you will recall reading the same names like Ian, Miles and Tate.
Ian is miles best friend from childhood in Ugly Love and he is also Ben’s elder
pilot brother is November 9. In November 9 when Ben’s brother Kyle dies, Miles
and Tate visit for the funeral.
