BOOK REVIEW: TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE BY PRAJAKTA KOLI

Too Good to Be True by Prajakta Koli – A Debut That’s Just… Okay?

Alright, let’s talk about Prajakta Koli—the OG YouTuber, influencer, actor, and now, an author (because why not?). She recently dropped her debut novel, Too Good to Be True, and obviously, I had to check it out.

Who’s Prajakta Koli?

If you’ve been on the internet even once in the last decade, you already know Prajakta a.k.a MostlySane. From hilarious, relatable content to starring in Netflix’s Mismatched, she’s been everywhere. And now, she’s added “writer” to her already stacked resume. Big moves!

What’s the Too Good to Be True Book About?

Too Good to Be True follows the classic “opposites attract” trope—perfect, rich, dream-boy meets chaotic, not-so-put-together girl. They fall in love, life happens, drama ensues. Sounds familiar? Yeah, that’s because it kinda is. But hey, for someone dipping their toes into writing for the first time, it’s a solid attempt.

My Two Cents (Aka, The Review)

Okay, let’s be real—I wanted to love this book, but I ended up just…liking it. And mostly because of the easy-breezy writing (which, tbh, is probably more of the editor’s flex than Prajakta’s). The story itself? Super predictable. If you’ve read any romance novel or watched Mismatched, you already know the drill.

✅ What Worked?

  • A Light & Fun Read – Perfect for beginners who want a non-intimidating book that doesn’t require much emotional investment.
  • Clean, Simple Writing – No unnecessary fluff, no overly complicated prose. Just straight vibes, making it an easy page-turner.
  • Signature Humor – The dialogues had a charm, and some moments genuinely made me smile.
  • Well-Written Side Characters – They added an extra layer to the story, preventing it from being just about the main lovebirds.
  • Fast-Paced Narrative – The story doesn’t drag, which is a blessing if you’re someone who prefers quick reads.

❌ What Didn’t?

  • Too Generic – The rich-guy-broken-girl trope has been done so many times. Nothing fresh or innovative here.
  • Weak Climax – It didn’t feel like a climax. It was just some forced negativity thrown in for the sake of drama.
  • Lowkey Felt Like Mismatched – Same rich, perfect guy. Same chaotic, confused girl. Just with different names.
  • Lack of Emotional Depth – Some moments that should have hit just felt rushed and surface-level.
  • Forced Romance – The chemistry between the leads felt like it was happening because the story needed it to, not because it naturally evolved.
  • Unnecessary Misunderstandings – Many conflicts could’ve been avoided if the characters just talked instead of stretching out the drama.
  • Played It Safe – The book lacked risks. It had all the ingredients of a good romance but didn’t push any boundaries.

Final Thoughts

If you’re just starting out with reading or love a chill, no-brainer romance, you might enjoy this. But if you’re looking for depth, unique storytelling, or an actual emotional rollercoaster, this might not be it.

Since it’s Prajakta’s debut, I’ll give it a pass. But next time? We need more originality, sis!

Rating: 3/5 (Generous, ‘cause I like her as a person.)
